Corespondence 3 Bangladeshi companies coming over for establishing business in the USA will face a lot of legal issues concerning many aspects of their business. In this meet- ing, a legal expert team discussed these issues to the Government delegation in detail. This is invaluable for future companies who are going to subscribe to the BIBC. The team has promised the delegation their expert and professional help and services as and when required. The Bangladeshi delegation met with Mr. Sridar Iyengar, President of TIE for a working dinner. The discussion was very fruitful. Among the agenda was the open- ing of a TIE chapter in Bangladesh this year, possible bi-lateral cooperation in building ICT business for Bangladesh and India, possible cooperation in network- ing, and other important aspects. Mr. Sridar Iyengar invited the delegation to at- tend their next conference, TIECON, to take this cooperation to the next level. The delegation visited Intel Museum to get a first hand view of the advancement and history of the rapid growth of the silicon industry. They had the opportunity to see how the ICT industry moves rapidly in response to growth in public confi- dence in the technology and the demand for better, faster and cheaper technology. The Bangladeshi delegation then went to visit the IT department of National Semi- conductor. They were met by Mr. Ulrich Seif, Chief Information Officer & Senior Vice President, Corporation Information Services. The team was shown how the ICT infrastructure is essential in attracting foreign companies to invest in a coun- try. They also demonstrated how the National Semiconductor IT Department is able to control its worldwide operations from the Silicon Valley Head Quarters. In the afternoon, the delegation visited KIN (Korean IT Network). They met with Kenneth D. Lee, President of KIN and Mr. Young M Hur, the Executive Director of the Center. This was an especially important visit as the Korean IT Network was established by the Korean Government and they followed the same strategy of establishing a physical foothold in the USA for Korean ICT companies. Now they are immensely successful. But that did not happen overnight. This is the same model that BIBC is trying to follow. They shared their experiences and their advices with the visiting delegation. Their cooperation will be highly relevant to the suc- cess of BIBC. Photo of the Month The visit of the Secretary of Commerce to the BIBC office. Dear BIBC, The journey has only just begun, and we have a very long way to go. People are anxious to see the office filled with Bangladeshi Businesses very soon, with some people/Busi- nesses on the waiting list. It also appears that many critical observ- ers including Bangladesh Govern- ment has a spread sheet ready to fill it up with dollar numbers earned in IT sector through this ICT Business center. Let’s remain conscious that this is a challenge for us to face as a team and as a community. Let’s all put all of ourselves fully into it self- lessly and whole-heartedly, and ac- cept the challenge, and let’s all make it happen. With best regards, Mahbub Khan 408-942-0256
