What is the future of WiMax in the emerging economies? What are some of the business models that favor WiMax over other forms of internet service? How does WiMax differentiate itself from competing protocols like 3G and 4G? How do these factors influence the IT landscape of Bangladesh, a country eager to promote itself as the next Asian Tiger? What are some of the developments in this space, and how can you realize some of the incredible opportunities?
If you find yourself asking these questions, and are keen to learn of developments that have taken place in this area in Bangladesh and other emerging economies of Asia, then join us at PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Jose for a presentation and informal conversation led by the CEO of one of the most socially conscious and technically progressive organizations of Bangladesh -- bracNet. Mohammad Rab, CEO of bracNet will talk about his two years experience working in Bangladesh and will elaborate on a number of key challenges and opportunities endemic to the Bangladesh IT landscape. In this talk, he will also explore the key management positions available for building a world class WiMAX Telco infrastructure. Part of this talk will also involve lending insight into and offering investment opportunities to capitalize on an extraordinary boom taking place in this area. Finally, Rab will dwell on some macro level parallels and disparities between Bangladesh and India. On the heels of both Goldman, Sachs and Morgan Stanley's vote of confidence regarding the future of Bangladesh, the conversation is timely, and is meant to inspire and educate a willing group to join hands in utilizing technology for the alleviation and betterment of society. This will be mostly an interactive session with light refreshments and lots of Q&A opportunities. About bracNet Declining to accept the 2.3GHz mobile WiMax license that it won in a bidding in 2008 owing to global recession and unreasonably high license acquisition fee, the firm now plans to roll out WiMax nationwide through its earlier license at 3.5GHz. Currently it serves 10,000+ corporate and residential broadband users in 54 districts in Bangladesh. Being part of the BRAC family, bracNet’s core mission is to bring down the digital divide by facilitating distance learning, skill set development and employment generation through e-learning and e-commerce. It runs 110 rural cyber-café franchises called e-huts. bracNet is poised to take advantage of BRAC’s 52000+ primary schools, 2500+ managed high schools and 1400+ community libraries (Gano Pathagar). bracNet recently received the exclusive distributorship right in Bangladesh for Intel’s classmate PC. The total solution will compose of increasing PC penetration, broadband connectivity, local language content, e-learning and training, financing and green power delivery in one package. It is a reseller of Dell, Lenovo IBM and Huawei products and a premier partner of Cisco for system integration and managed services.
